Wow. Some guys at Stanford are X-raying a 13th-Century prayer book, so they can read the only known extant copy of a major work by the mathemetician Archimedes. The math text had been scraped off the pages 800 years ago, and replaced with the prayers. The “Archimedes Palimpsest” project has a website, continually updated with new page scans. Fascinating stuff.
