I wonder if they still make WATE-ON? (See the “Don’t be SKINNY!” ad on page 2 of Exotic Romances no. 28, April 1956.)

Competitive gymnastics and relay racing are somewhat different in Japan.

Certain readers were reporting a difficulty clicking on the “comments” links beneath the posts. The problem (I think) was only occurring in Microsoft Internet Explorer on Windows machines. After much experimentation, I found that the only way to fix it was to put a few pixels of white space underneath that line with the links. It’s a total mystery to me why that would fix it, but it did.

UPDATE: I think I also fixed that weird problem where the comment text area was bleeding way off the page on the right side (also in MSIE on Windows). Do let me know if other bugs are bothering you.

Everyone has a favorite Bible translation (well, you do, don’t you?), and mine is the Biblia Sacra Vulgatæ editionis, Sixti V Pontificis Maximi jussu recognita et edita, more commonly known as the Clementine Vulgate.

I have a copy of the Clementine Vulgate: a hundred-year-old edition procured via eBay. I always wondered when someone would get around to putting the Clementine text online. Today, I stopped wondering.

Mirabile dictu, I have found The Clementine Vulgate project, the complete text of the best Latin Bible translation ever. Thank you to Michael Tweedale of London for a tremendous service.

Don’t miss Huffington Post blogger Steven G. Brant’s post “George Tenent’s Responsibility Meltdown,” a finger-wagging harangue of George J. Tenet in which he misspells the former CIA chief’s name ten times.

Was this an error? Or was it a pun too subtle for our coarse sensibilities? Or are journalists too frightened in the wake of Plamegate to write the real names of any CIA employees? If so, it is a chilling effect.

UPDATE: He has corrected his spelling.

The Gleeson Bloglomerate has always consisted of three blogs: Sean’s, Phoebe’s, and the homeschool blog. Back in the first incarnation of blog.gleeson.us, the one that up and died, the home page served as an aggregator of the three blogs, showing all of the posts from any of those three. So in effect, the home page was like a fourth blog, but with no actual content of its own.

This time around, we’re doing it a bit differently. Blog.gleeson.us will still be a gateway to the constituent blogs, but now it will also be a proper blog in its own right, with content of its own. For instance, take this post I’m writing now. It’s a post on blog.gleeson.us, without being a post on the other blogs.

“But Sean,” you’re worrying, “with all your posts split up among four blogs, is there no way I can see the latest Gleeson blogging all on one page?”

There is a way! It’s a brand new little gizmo we call the Bloglomerator, and it now lives in the right-hand sidebar of every page on this site. The Bloglomerator is a Flash-powered RSS reader which shows the most recent posts from all the Gleeson blogs. It’s like having a tiny web browser that only goes to four sites! Click on the little square icons to diplay the content of a particular blog. Click on the text links to be transported to a particular post. Or click on the site title at the top to go to that blog.

Since it’s reading the RSS feeds, I’m afraid the Bloglomerator won’t show the pictures in a post, and the text usually isn’t the entire post, just a brief introduction. But it’s more than ample to see if there are any new posts, and if so, if they are something you might enjoy reading.

The Bloglomerator is version 0.1. It requires the Flash Player plug-in, version 6 or higher. More improvements are planned, but please comment here with compliments, questions, or error reports.
